Dev Blog #25
At last, zones now spawn buildings, allowing you to generate random neighborhoods with ease. There's also a handy dezoning tool located in the bulldozer category. Although it's a very rudimentary implementation, it will serve as a good start for future updates. In fact, there are several other "under the hood" changes that are preparations for zone demand, power, and water systems.

Hello everyone! In this dev blog, I'd like to show off some of the new assets our graphics artists have been working on. This isn't a comprehensive list, it's just an overview of their notable recent work. Enjoy!
Recently, Hadestia donated some of their prison buildings to the project. They include an admissions office, mess halls, busses, cells, and concrete walls. Here are a handful of the…

Tons of New Content:
Since summer began, I've been working on importing all of RockFort's assets into Cytopia. This was one of the biggest projects I've ever done for Cytopia, and I hope you enjoy all of the new buildings! However, the UI may make it difficult to access many of the buildings, so I apologize for that. Here's a quick list of the most interesting additions:
- Small garden park
Dev Blog #22
We've added tons of new content this month! Not only is there a new song, but there are hundreds of new items available in-game (with hundreds more to come)! To keep things brief, I'll only cover the most interesting changes we've made. I hope you enjoy all this new content!
- Toxic waste
- Destroyed/abandoned stuff
- Deep snow
- Crystal jungle items
- Winter Holiday items
Dev Blog #21
For the last month and a half, I've been working on updating all the in-game buildings for our future UI update. Although we're still not sure when that update will be finished, a number of QoL changes and new items have been added to the game. You can see most of these changes yourself if you download the game from our itch io page. I hope you enjoy it because they are a lot more changes coming in the…

New Tree Type:
I have recently added oak trees to Cytopia based on some art RockFort made. In addition, I have also changed the map generation so it includes poplar, pine, birch, and oak trees! These changes are already live, so you should see them when you update the game.
Dev Blog #19
Welcome back, everyone! Since the last dev log, we've made a decent chunk of progress on the game, from adding all the new trees, to implementing our new font and cursor.
We've been experimenting with some new, more versatile fonts recently. Let us know what you think about it on our Discord server! If you'd like to see this first hand, just update the game through the Itch io…
Dev Blog #18
Hello and welcome to Dev Blog #18! Unfortunately, I had to skip last month because nothing major was added. The developers have been very busy with real-life stuff and they haven't had as much free time recently. Anyway, let me show you what we have done over the past two months!
Westrox (one of our devs) is working on improving the blueprint view by showing buildings and roads while you're using it.
Dev Blog #17
Welcome back, everyone! In this month's dev blog, we have a few cool additions to cover and a large announcement regarding the Android version of Cytopia.
A few changes and bug fixes have been made and will appear in public versions of the game soon. Two of these fixes include making water flora tiles overplacable and preventing the player from placing water under buildings. The third change adds the ability to modify the transparency of zones in the…
Dev Blog #16
Hello everyone and welcome back to another dev blog! Lately, we've been working on some cool new tiles for the game and we've been discussing how to implement certain gameplay features. Admittedly, things have been a bit slow this month, but we hope to pick things up again soon!
A brand new plant has been made for Cytopia! It's long, green, and handsome. It is none other than the famous bamboo plant!
Dev Blog #15
After a lot of time (and much frustration on the developers’ parts), we have finally begun to port Cytopia to Android! We’ve managed to get the game running, however, there are still many issues to fix and features to add. Therefore, it’ll stay in private development until we are satisfied with the state of the game. Don’t worry if you play on another platform other than PC and Android though.
Cytopia v0.2.1 Released
===Cytopia v0.2.1 Changelog:===
- Fixed a bug where the game would crash when the terrain was elevated and an in-between tile was created.
- Fixed a few bugs in the line placement mode.
- Added a preview for buildings that are bigger than 1x1.
- When placing buildings bigger than 1x1, the placement is now correctly checked.

Subcategories and UI Improvements:
To better organize Cytopia's hundreds of buildings, we've implemented subcategories! This will help keep things more organized, as well as allow us to reduce the screen clutter. In addition, we've also fixed a longstanding problem with our UI that resulted in some buildings in the UI being displayed off-screen. This has been resolved and you should have every building at your disposal once we finish the other UI…

Version 0.2 of Cytopia has been Released:
After nearly one year since the last major version, 0.2 has finally been released! It brings with it a slew of improvements and changes, including new UI icons, better grass and water textures, linetools, and more. Check out the changelog for more info.
Cytopia v0.2 "The Map Update" Changelog
Nearly one year in the making, it’s Cytopia version 0.2! This update has been deemed “The Map Update” in reference to the new procedural terrain generation system and the big improvements to grass and water tiles. That’s not all of course. Several new features and additions have made their way into this update as well, including new music tracks, a linetool for roads, camera panning, user interface improvements, and more!…

Welcome back, readers! We've been working on some improvements to the game in preparation for v0.2 and v0.3 this month, with more improvements to come.

A new music track named "January's Theme" has been made by our Sound Designer, MB22. You can listen to it, and all of our tracks, here.

Dev Blog #11
Hello everyone. I hope you all had a happy holidays! Since last month, we've been hard at work on v0.3, so there are many new things to talk about.
Dev Blog #10
Welcome back, readers! After a couple of months without a dev blog, the time has come for Dev Blog #10.
You can now move the camera around using WASD. It's a small, but useful change that I'm sure some of you will enjoy.
OST Available on YouTube:
Cyctopia's full OST is now available on YouTube! It features all four tracks made for the game so far, and it'll be updated as…
Dev Blog Update
Not much has happened this month, so I'll be waiting until December to report the news. Sorry about any disappointment that may cause. See you next month!
Dev Blog #9
A Lifetime Behind Bars:
It's finally Spooktober and what a better way to celebrate it than to add the scariest thing of all time to the game. Bats? Zombies? Skeletons? Of course not! The scariest thing we could imagine was a lifetime of sadness in prison. Cytopia now has some prison pieces for you to play around with, although it lacks proper functionality at the moment.
There is also…
Dev Blog #8
Hello everyone! I'm finally back with another dev blog. I've decided to only make dev blogs once a month from now on so I can cover more interesting topics in one big blog, rather than covering lots of small/uninteresting things every couple of weeks.
Recently, one of our developers, adct23, has added the groundwork for binaural audio in Cytopia! In simple terms, binaural…
Dev Blog #7
A new slider for the UI has been made by one of our developers, Liz. Although it's not used for much now, it'll be useful in the future for things like terrain generation selection.
New Ground Types:
There's a new terrain type: mud! It goes well with the dirt and soil we have. And of course, it'll be used in map generation once we get that feature done. On top of that, we also…
New Lead Developer
It pains me to say that our Lead Developer, Jimmy Snails, will be stepping down from his position.
Ercadio will be our new Lead Developer from now on.
However, thanks to our new team of developers, Cytopia will continue to be developed and worked on, so don't worry about our project getting abandoned or anything anytime soon!
Dev Blog #6
Another two weeks, another dev blog. Sorry about this one being late. I haven't had the ability to write this until now.
Recently, we have started to work on localization for Cytopia! As of right now, I believe there are quite a few languages being worked on, but I'm sure that the number of languages we'll support will only grow with time.
Dev Blog #5
It sure has been awhile, hasn't it? Well, that's because we decided to post-pone this dev blog for a bit, so we would have more stuff to talk about. Sorry about the wait, hopefully the wealth of new information will make up for it.
New Terrain Generation Features:
The development team has been working hard on the terrain generation, with their most recent editon being trees. The basic trees will now appear in map generation, which should make your maps feel more…
Dev Blog #4
Hello everyone. Another couple of weeks have passed by, which means that it’s time for another dev blog.
Touch controls have been added to the game. You can now control the game with relative ease using these touch controls. However, this will mainly be for Windows 10 devices for now. Here’s a video about it:
Dev Blog #3
It's about that time again for another dev blog. We've been hard at work on Cytopia and we have completed lots of new content lately!
One of the most annoying things in the latest tech preview build was, that all buttons in the build menu could be active at the same time. This must have looked like a bug to some of you, but actually it was a missing feature!
Our custom UI didn’t feature exclusive button groups until now.
Dev Blog #2
It has been a couple of weeks, which means it's time for another dev blog. I guess we'll be going into depth a lot more from now on, so these will probably get quite a bit longer, but I'm sure some of you people out there will enjoy the detail.
Great News, everyone! MB22 joined our team and will create awesome music and soundeffects for Cytopia henceforth!…
Dev Blog #1
This will be the first dev blog of what will eventually (and hopefully) be many. Here I'll talk about some behind-the-scenes stuff and I'll try to keep everyone up to date with our progress on Cytopia, while keeping it as brief as I can. I plan on doing these bi-weekly, but we'll have to see if we have enough new information to do so. Anyway, on with the blog…
The community site is live!
Welcome to the Cytopia community portal!
It is a bit empty at the moment but with your help, we will make this an awesome community.
